Privacy

Your financial picture should stay private.

Quanrel is designed around a separation between the application account and the user’s private financial vault. Readable financial records are encrypted in the user’s browser before being synchronised to a separate server-side SQLite vault database. That database stores ciphertext and cryptographic metadata, not readable financial tables.

Application data

The server may hold information needed to operate Quanrel, such as user identity, authentication data, sessions, security events and protected system settings.

Financial vault

Accounts, balances, holdings, pensions, budgets, debts, goals and other personal financial records are decrypted only in the user’s browser after the vault PIN is entered. The server receives and stores the encrypted vault blob, allowing the same data to synchronise across authorised devices without giving normal server administrators a readable copy.

Market data

Market lookups may send instrument identifiers such as ticker symbols or crypto identifiers to market-data providers. Portfolio quantities, total investment values and net worth are not required merely to obtain an instrument price.

Backups

Encrypted .qrl backups remain available as optional recovery copies. Normal phone/desktop synchronisation uses the encrypted server vault, so users do not need to move backup files between devices.
